In March 1968, the month before he was assassinated, Martin Luther King went to Memphis to support sanitation workers on strike. In a speech, he said "You know Jesus reminded us in a magnificent parable one day that a man went to hell because he didn't see the poor. His name was Dives." Soon after in the speech, he said:
